Storing your area rug safely will keep it in pristine condition no matter how long it is in your garage or attic. Whether you’re moving or planning on storing your rug for many years, follow these guidelines for storing your area rug.

Roll It

Roll your area rug – NEVER fold it. This will prevent creases from forming in your rug when you unroll it.

Set it Upright

Typically, it’s best to set your rug upright against a wall or shelf. If this is not a possibility, let it in a roll on a flat surface. Do not place anything on top of your rug to prevent wear and creasing.

Wrap It

In some cases, if you’re planning on storing your rug for an extended period of time, it’s best to wrap your rug in plastic to prevent moisture and mold from lingering. If you can’t wrap it in plastic, be sure to store it in a cool, dry place away from any moisture or direct sunlight. Sunlight can fade any colors in your area rug.

Unrolling It

When you’re ready to unroll your rug, lay it flat and unrolled, without any furniture on it for 24 hours. That way, any creases or lines will iron out before it’s ready to be used.

Store your area rug safely to be sure it is in new and beautiful condition for many years.
